Ayrton Senna da Silva was born in March 1960 to middle class Brazilian parents. When he was very young his father Milton bought him a go-kart and within years the young Ayrton was regularly winning kart events. His career progressed and in 1982 he moved to England to pursue his racing. In 1984 he came to the attention of the whole world racing in Formula One. Over the next 10 years he won the prestigious drivers world title three times and engaged in some hight controversial racing with France's Alain Prost and Englands Nigel Mansell. Ayrton Senna was killed in May 1994 while racing at the San Marino Grand Prix in Italy when a piece of suspension pierced his helmet visor and punctured his skull.
